Barcelona will create history by being the first Spanish football club to win the treble
Barcelona won their 19th Primera Liga title without kicking a ball on May 16 which is a Saturday when fierce rivals Real Madrid lost 3-2 to Villarreal at Estadio El Madrigal which allowed Guardiola to field a number of second-string players against Mallorca the following day where they lost 2-1 despite leading 1-0 in the first half by Samuel Eto and they won the Copa De Rey by thrashing Athletic Bilbao 4-1 in Estadio Mestalla on 13/05.Prior to the Champions League finals,they are winless in their last three La-Liga games.Their last game was a 1-0 loss to Osasuna which is Barcelona's second home defeat of the season where only Samuel Eto'o and Sylvinho began in that match and the rest of the Barca side was made up of fringe players and youngsters.Youngster Marc Muniesa was controversially sent off late on as the home side and Guardiola was also dismissed for his protests.
Impressive Barcelona will enter this match weakened with suspensions and injuries
In their 14 Champions League games campaign,Barcelona has 7 wins,5 draws and 2 losses,scoring 34 goals and conceding 13 goals in the process where the losses were a 1-0 loss to Wisla Krakow in the second league of the Champions League Qualifiers but that can be forgiven as they won 4-0 in the first league of the Champions League Qualifier and also a 3-2 loss to Shakhtar Donetsk in their last group stage game where they have already qualified to proceed to the knockout rounds.
The best thing about Barcelona is their breathtaking attacking football where they have the three-man attack consisting of Henry,Messi and Eto’o who were very impressive whereas having Xavi, Iniesta and Yaya Toure in midfield meant that Barcelona would dominate every single match.Their attack was so powerful that they thrashed Basel 5-0 and Sporting Lisbon 5-2 at away in the group stages,thrashing Lyon 5-2 at home in the knockout rounds and also thrashed Bayern Munich 4-0 at home in both halves in the quarter finals and thanks to Iniesta's goal against Chelsea at the Stamford Bridge,they are in the finals although people are blaming the referee for not giving Chelsea any penalty but though is so,Barcelona has shown that in both leagues against Chelsea,they never gave up.
Guardiola has got some selection problems due to suspensions and injuries happening to some of his players.Barcelona are weakened,especially in their backline as Abidal and Dani Alves are suspended,whereas Marquez and Milito are out with injuries.Therefore,Puyol and Silvinho will probably start on the sides while Pique and Yaya Toure will form a defensive partnership.Young defenders Alberto Botia and Marc Muniesa have also been included in the travelling party for the game against Manchester United as the Blaugrana defence is affected by injuries and Muniesa,who was sent off on his first-team debut at the weekend against Osasuna,has been named in the Barcelona squad as Dani Alves,Rafa Marquez,Eric Abidal and Gaby Milito are all unavailable.Barcelona's defence is prone to set pieces where it can be seen where Real Madrid scored the two goals during their 6-2 loss to Barcelona at Bernabeu. Seydou Keita has already denied that he will be the one to fill in at left-back so it seems like that Sylvinho will be chosen whilst Carles Puyol could be shifted to right-back with Yaya Toure in the middle.
In the attacking department,both Henry and Iniesta are struggling with injuries but they had plenty of time to recuperate in the past few weeks and both are named in the Barcelona squad after the duo trained on Monday even though they did not maintain the same level.Both players have worked hard to be fit for the final but they will undergo tests ahead of the encounter before Guardiola decides whether they are ready to play or not.If they are not playing,goalscoring burden will fall on Samuel Eto,Lionel Messi,etc.Without Dani Alves to overlap and support Lionel Messi down the right wing,he has to work twice as hard to get past Patrice Eva.Lionel Messi has been accused lately by some of his detractors of going missing in big games like the one in the Chelsea game where he rarely showing his burst of pace or his jaw-dropping skills to run past defenders as he seemed too scared of losing the ball so this will be his chance to elevate his game again and prove his critics wrong as many believe that if he guides his beloved Barca to glory.

This season,Manchester United has won the treble with the Club World Cup title,English League Cup and the English Premier League title at hand and if Manchester United wins the UEFA Champions League,they will create history by being the first football club to win back-to-back UEFA Champions League title since the European Cup became the Champions League in 1992.Manchester United alone has created history in this season's Champions League by being the first ever English Club to win FC Porto at Estadio Do Dragao and they will have Park Ji Sung as the first Asian player to be fielded and played in the UEFA's Champions League finals,etc.Having entering to UEFA Champions League finals,Manchester United is unbeaten in this season's UEFA Champions League campaign where they have won 6 and drew 6 out of their 12 UEFA Champions League games,scoring 18 goals but conceding only 6 goals in the process.Before entering the finals,they also had a comfortable 3-1 win over Arsenal in the second league of the semi-finals at the Emirates despite winning 1-0 at home in the first league of the UEFA Champions League semi-finals at Old Trafford.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has hinted that he could play Wayne Rooney on the left-wing in the Champions League final on Wednesday and he has seen his side really click when he has used the 4-3-3 formation,winning the last six games out of seven which means that Rooney will play at the left hand side of the attack with Cristiano Ronaldo playing through the middle and they used it during the 3-1 win over Arsenal at the second league of the UEFA Champions League finals.Wayne Rooney is a player who can cause a threat whenever he attacks and he also helps out in the defence but despite Ferguson's optimism,Wayne Rooney has admitted that he is not very fond of the role.Last season,Manchester United won Barcelona 1-0 at Old Trafford at the second league of the UEFA Champions League semi finals through a long range shot by Paul Scholes and they drew 0-0 at Nou Camp in the first league of the UEFA Champions League semi finals. |
