See teacher's reply to rebellious Pri school girl who scolded him with vulgarities on FB

A STOMPer's friend came across a posting made by a primary school pupil in which she scolded a teacher. The teacher then replied to the post.

Said the STOMPer:

"My friend came across this post made by this primary school girl.

"She uses vulgar language to slam her teacher freely on facebook.

"We are always taught to be respectful to our teachers but what has the world become?"

'No misconduct' in case of principal who sent 'cute' messages to ex-students

                                                                                         In response to the accusations of a STOMPer that a secondary school principal was 'stalking' ex-students on facebook and leaving inappropriate comments on their photos, MOE says there is no evidence of misconduct.

STOMPer Nel felt uncomfortable when his daughter's ex-teacher, who is now a principal, commented that his daughter's Facebook profile picture was 'nice'.

He said the principal's facebook account also revealed that he had been making similar comments on other students' pictures as well.

The STOMPer's wife had complained to the Ministry of Education (MOE) when their daughter first alerted them to the comments last September.

MOE says the comments lacked judgement, but they 'did not present conclusive evidence of misconduct'. The Ministry added that after the Stomp posting, it had not found new evidence so far.

The principal said he had started a facebook account to foster rapport with his students, and the account has been shut down since the complaints became public.

He said: 'I am mindful of the gravity of the responsibility of a principal and will continue to strive to be a caring and responsible educator.

One parent said he had a son in the schhol and had met the principal. He felt that the principal was a caring one who listened to his students.

The parent though the words 'nice' and 'cute' were generic. He added that the words were used loosely, and did not necessarily mean anything.

进一步协助学生　华助会将推出“学习工作坊”

　　过去20年以传统补习方式帮助学生提升考试成绩的华社自助会，下来将推出“学习工作坊”（Learning Workshops），帮助学生更好地管理时间，加强记忆力，应对考试能力和分析能力。

　　接替颜金勇出任华助会教育委员会主席的刘燕玲说，除了学术表现，华助会与教育部配合，向学生灌输正确的价值观，使他们能成为终身学习者。

　　她昨天在记者会上说，华助会下来要做的，是帮助这些学生掌握更有效的学习能力，让他们在离开补习班后，依然能不断成长和继续学习。

　　在介绍新的“学习工作坊”计划时，刘燕玲表示在初步阶段，华助会将考虑为那些即将参加全国会考的华助会补习班学生主办这类工作坊。

　　过去20年，华助会着重帮助中小学生提升学业成绩，华助会在2006年把援助计划延伸到学前儿童，为那些没有上过学前教育的低收入家庭儿童推出学前援助计划。

将把援助项目扩大
至工教院与工院生

刘燕玲表示，华助会下来将把援助项目扩大到中学以外，特别是帮助有需要的工艺教育学院和理工学院学生。

　　华助会在2009年3月实验性推出优苗培育计划（Project Excellence），并在这一计划中强调五种价值观－－助人精神、团队精神、诚实、坚韧和尊重。刘燕玲说，参与计划的学生不仅成绩有进步，个性方面也有积极正面的发展。

　　华助会义工联系与发展委员会主席马炎庆说，目前已有2500名义工的华助会，希望在未来一年再招募500名义工。

　　马炎庆说，华助会希望通过宗乡会馆、新移民组织和活跃乐龄团体这三方面扩大联络网，从而招募更多义工。

　　他解释说，宗乡会馆和华助会有一些共同点，那就是帮助本身的族群或族人，至于新移民和乐龄人士，则反映了社会新发展趋势。

　　他说，一些新移民希望通过当义工来融入社会，华助会能帮他们做到这一点，而随着人口老化，上了年纪的国人虽然放慢脚步，他们的经验却依然可贵，因此可说服他们当义工来分享经验。

华助会员工献身精神
最让林瑞生感动

　　已卸下华助会董事会主席的林瑞生说，常年大会的与会者留意到华助会一些援助项目反应有下降趋势，例如华助会补习班学生人数减少，但是总体开支却增加，这是因为传统项目需求虽减少，帮助低收入者力争上游的新项目需求却增加。

　　他表示过去12年在华助会的工作非常有意义，最令他感动的是华助会员工的献身精神。他说，华助会员工不多，只有70人，但所推出的项目却不断增加。

他希望华助会的精神，下来能在颜金勇的领导下发扬光大。往前看时，他认为随着社会环境的快速演变，华助会今后能做的事还很多，特别是在帮助压力倍增的国人如何把挑战转变为新的机遇。

　　询及华助会的财务状况，新董事会主席颜金勇说，华助会运作资金目前还有小盈余，信托局承诺，如果面对经济危机，需要推出应急措施，华助会可动用储备金。要是有好的计划要推行，也可要求额外拨款。

  School fees to increase for non-citizens in 2013: MOE

SINGAPORE - The Ministry of Education (MOE) announced today that it will be revising school fees from 2013 in government and government-aided schools for non-Singaporeans.

School fees will increase by $50-80 per month for students who are Permanent Residents (PR) and by $115-250 per month for international students (IS).

         Primary PR students will be charged $90 up from $40, while IS (ASEAN) will be charged $350 up from $235. Other international students will be charged $500 up from $345.

School fees for students who are Singapore Citizens (SC) will remain unchanged. Primary school education is free for citizens.
Monthly fees for secondary PR students, IS (ASEAN) and IS will increase by $65 to $120, $125 to $450, and $180 to $650, respectively.

Fees for local students will remain at $5.

Meanwhile, pre-university PR students will be charged $160 up from $80, while IS (ASEAN) will be charged $700 up from $530.
Other international students will be charged $1,000 up from $750.

School fees for local students will remain at $6.

Monthly standard miscellaneous fees will also increase for all students by $1 to $6.50 for primary school students, by $2.00 to $10.00 for secondary school students and by $2.50 to $13.50 for Pre-University school students.
