What do you think of "singlish"??

<P>We can not define that singlish is good or bad in local society, Meanwhile once you mimic well, you can get along with those locals in easy way. But english is universal and for any kind of reasons I do perfer standard english. That is not real good topic attaching some many canto in my opinion.</P><P>Seal my words......</P>

<P>It's both amusing and disturbing to read some of the posts and comments on the topic so far, as I'm neither an advocate nor a critic of 'Singlish'. To use or not to use 'Singlish', that's the question and it's a question of choice - a choice anyone can freely make as I don't believe there's social pressure on anyone, local or foreigner, to speak 'Singlish'. I understand 'Singlish' but I don't use it at all (although occasionally I have difficulty being understood by my fellow SIngaporeans)! Language is only a means to an end (communication), it's neither good nor bad per se. It's how it's used and spoken (by its speakers) that brings it prestige or contempt.</P>
